tsunamis.....

"The water went back, back, back, so far away, and everyone wondered what it was — a full moon or what? Then we saw the wave come, and we ran," said Katri Seppanen, who was in Thailand, on Phuket island's popular Patong beach.

I say - why run? You won't outrun the tidal wave, you might as well stay and enjoy the view.....
Well, Xmas is here & gone now. Katya loved all her presents, though when we started she wasn't sure how to react. She stopped opening stuff about a third of the way through her stuff. We got her way too much stuff I think. By the time we went to my parents house, she wanted to open every gift for herself, even if it wasn't hers. Santa was good to everyone htis year. I got a new scanner that does negatives too. Now I am archiving all my photos on the computer. It has buttons on the front for documents, photos, negatives... Makes life much easier on the scannning side of things. Rain got a scrapbooking starter kit, and I went through all the photos we have and they are in one box - looks like about 2000 pictures or so - about 25lb worth. I told her I wanted to help with the scrap booking. I think it is a good idea to do.

Well it snowed last night - less than an inch, just enough to make a mess. Bummer.... It was supposed to be 2-4 originally. I am looking forward to Katya's first snow storm.

Christmas is almost here - I got most of Katya's presents wrapped last night -only a few left and still have to shop for a few people. Rain has been sick the last few days so the Christmas spirit hasn't really been there. I hope that will change tonight as we finish up the wrapping and shopping.

It's been a fun (hectic) week. Between servers at the office, getting ready for Xmas, etc. I've been running non-stop. Last night I started wrapping Katya's presents until we ran out of paper - back to the store tonight to get more paper I guess.

The wedding was a succcess (at least as much as we could make it). I took nearly 500 pictures before my 35mm died. I'm bummed! The aperture motor quit on me. I'm looking on Ebay and am bidding ~50.00 on almost new ones.. We'll see how that goes.

This week has been nuts both at work and at home. Between the wedding prep and work I have been real busy. Hopefully it will cam down next week.

I need to start blogging more often again. We went to an SCA event Saturday - it was nice, we stayed for feast. We're getting closer to the wedding - things are starting to fall together - last minute. They still have lots to do that should have been done already. Oh well, that is their choice.

It looks like the aux. flash for my 35mm is going bad - it keeps locking up the camera if I let it sit too long. I just ordered a new flash with auto zoom - that is pretty cool to have. As I zoom in or out, the flash will follow from 28mm-80mm, which is about all you would normally use a flash for anyhow. I am going to be the photographer for a friend's wedding next week. Who knows, the more I get to do this, I might just start doing photography on the side.

We had our home study review last night  no big deal really, just a progress check up.

Busy week

We've been busy helping some friends plan their sons wedding (in 2 weeks!). Last night we were up till after midnight printing invitations and response cards. They came out real good, but we had to feed the invitations one at a time because the printer did not like it when we fed multiple sheets in the tray at once. No idea why. I'm going to be the photographer at the wedding, this should be interesting.

Katya is doing real well. Her language skills have improved to the point where we are able to talk to her and hold a conversation. She is still in the "What's that?" stage, I'm sure "Why?" is soon to follow. She is growing quite nicely, she has put on several pounds since we got her and is getting taller. She is now in a 24 month size very comfortably and getting into a size 6 1/2 shoe already. By Spring she will probably be ready to outgrow 24 month and into a size 8 shoe at the rate she is going. This kid has one heck of an appetite. I give her a little food and she asks for more. She still gets wet training pants but is getting better. Most days she does not know that she has to go until she has already started, but does pretty good with it. She used to be wet very often. Now some mornings she is still dry and will go 4 or 5 hours and not wet herself. We're getting there slowly but surely.
